Interview Me: Betty Felon 12. 15. 10
We’re back, with another super Special guest, Bethany! Resident costumes expert over at Comics Alliance, Fellow tumblr-er, and all around fashionable lady. Below, we will find out how she finds time to D.I.Y., Keep her job, run 2 fun blogs, stay stylish and work as a Vigilante saving Boston from one bad creep at a time. Enjoy!
—>
KM: Top 5 anything comic related. Story arcs, Top 5 characters, Top 5 events in your favorite comic.
BF: My top 5 story arcs: Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Dark Victory, Phonogram: Rue Brittannia, the entire Blue Monday series, Batman: No Man’s Land.
KM: Are there any new comics that are starting at 0, or close to it, that someone can just jump into, without having to have a serious background in comics?
BF: I think it really depends on what the reader is into; for example, many of my comic friends are actually into comics that have nothing to do with capes. However, the only series that seems to hook many avid comic fans and people who usually don’t read comics is Scott Pilgrim.
KM: What’s your favorite piece of jewelry, and what type do you wear most often?
BF: The one piece of jewelry that I wear daily is my Green Lantern power ring, which I got on Free Comic Book Day in 2007; however, I do own a ton of jewelry that I coordinate with my outfits. I also collect watches, and wear a different one every day.
KM: Which movies based off comics did you like?
BF: Ghost World, The Dark Knight, Superman Returns, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Sin City.
KM: How long have you been a fan of comic books?
BF: I’ve been reading comics since I was about 8 or 9.
How often do you wear makeup? Do you have any favorite brands?
BF: I usually wear cherry Nivea lip balm everyday and I’ll occasionally wear liquid eyeliner. I don’t have any favorite brands in particular.
KM: What is your official vocation?
BF: Vigilante.
KM: Are you in school?
BF: No - I graduated in 2008.
KM: How long have you been D.I.Y. ing?
BF: Ever since I was a little girl.
Who/what taught you how to sew?
BF: I learned most of my sewing basics from my mom and from a fashion design course I took in high school. Since then, I’ve been pretty much self-taught when it comes to learning new techniques (with the help of sewing tutorials and tips online).
KM: What inspired you to create the Snorlax dress?
BF: One of my friends was a having a Pokemon-themed birthday party, and wanted us all to dress up like different Pokémon. I chose Snorlax partially because he’s my mom’s favorite Pokémon and because I figured that everyone else was going to dress up as Pikachu.
KM: Who’s your favorite Pokémon?
BF: To be honest, I haven’t really played Pokémon since Red/Blue, so I’m really only familiar with the original first generation of 151. My favorite Pokémon are Bulbasaur, Psyduck, and Snorlax.
KM: How long have you been Blogging and Twittering?
BF: I’ve been blogging since I was about 14, and I’ve been Twittering for about two years now.
KM: I noticed a lot of your photos are taken from inside a comic book shop. Can you explain why you use this backdrop?
BF: Most of my more recent outfit photos are taken every Wednesday, when I pick up my New Releases at my LCS. I usually coordinate my outfit every Wednesday with the release that I’m most looking forward to reading that week. Likewise, my friend at my LCS is a professional photographer, which is why my Wednesday photos are usually better quality than my self-taken outfit photos in my room.
KM: If you could be any superhero and super heroine, who would you choose and why?
BF: Robin (Dick Grayson) and Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), because I relate to them the most.
KM: What inspired you to create an etsy shop?
BF: I had been meaning to create an e-store for a long time, and finally decided to after I had been getting many commission requests for bows.
KM: What do you think makes up a good comic?
BF: Pages.
KM: What is your least favorite comic book and why?
BF: All-Star Batman and Robin, by Frank Miller. I only read the first volume of ASBaR, but I really didn’t like how Miller wrote Black Canary, Wonder Woman, and Batman.
KM: How old are you and what is your favorite colors?
BF: I’m 24, and my favorite colors are red, blue, yellow, grey, black, and white.

The New Face of Chanel? 12. 17.10
So according to E and Fashionista. Blake Lively, Resident Bad girl on Gossip Girl, just snagged the position of New Face of Chanel! I hope she treats it better than her acting role. I love Gossip Girl to death. But Serena annoys me to no end. I hope she bring Chanel into a new light!
You have been quipped.

FOTD + OOTD: Military Gone Femme 12.19.10
So due to cleaning the house all week, I finally found my missing Military jacket. For the past couple of years, Military jackets have been all the rage, gracing the cover, of Nylon, seventeen and Teenvogue. So, thanks to Geri C. and Conway, I got a super cute black one. Which I’m wearing in my outfit of the day. All the pieces included will be on Lookbook.nu and chictopia.com if you wanted to check them out for yourself.
My eye look was very feminine rock.
This might become a tutorial but I am not sure yet. Thanks for reading!

Interview Me: The Chubisaur 12.22.10
KM:How long have you been a part of the D.I.Y. Movement?
CW: Hm. Well I suppose when I started making my own clothes a few years ago in college. I couldn’t find what I wanted in stores, so I started making my own stuff.
KM:Who taught you how to sew?
CW:I’m BASICALLY self taught. When I switched majors in college to Fashion Design, I realized I had never even been around a machine, so that Christmas I got my first sewing machine. I struggled a lot in class, and through the tears, I figured out stuff as I went.
KM:How old are you?
CW:Ew. I don’t like this question because I feel like I’m so old! 22 /:
KM:Are you in school? If so, what are you studying?
CW:Nope, not anymore. I attended school for three years, majoring both in Graphic Design and Fashion Design.
KM:When you first started your etsy, what kind of things did you sell?
CW:Hm. When I FIRST started out, mainly backpacks. I was feeling out where I wanted to go with it and how the whole Etsy thing worked.
KM:If you had it all over again, what would you do differently?
CW:Had what all over again? Life? Etsy? Starting my venture into selling my things? Hm. Nothing. I regret nothing. Everything’s a learning experience, and I wouldn’t be where I am without those mistakes.
KM:How long have you lived in Ohio?
CW:Ew. My entire life.
KM:Are you a social butterfly? Or a silent squirrel?
CW:Squirrel! I’m definitely a loner. I’d rather stay in and play games then go out to a party.
KM:What is your favorite School subject?
CW:Hm. Well when I was in school I really enjoyed Fashion Illustration. It was something I struggled with and hated at first, but then I learned and got better and I love it. I should probably upload some of my illustrations to Tumblr when I get the chance.
KM:What was your first sewing machine?
CW:My first/current machine is a Husqvarna Viking my grandmother purchased for me for Christmas at our local Joanns Fabrics.
KM:What is your favorite type of fabric?
CW:Actually, I’m not really sure. I’ve mainly worked with cottons, and a lot of fleece. I know what I don’t like though. I don’t like shear, flowy, drapey fabrics that shed everywhere and move all over the place when you’re trying to work with them.
KM:Do you wear makeup and if so what are your favorite brands?
CW:Haha, no way. Well, I guess I do technically, if slapping on some cover stick and black eyeliner counts. As for brands.. whatever’s at the grocery store when we’re picking up something for dinner that night lol. I’ve never really been into makeup, never learned how to put it on, and frankly, it intimidates me lol.
KM:Do you find it difficulty to sell your designs on Etsy?
CW:Well I haven’t really tried any other venues, so I can’t really compare it to anything. I’ve been doing pretty steady though since I started posting things in July.
KM:As a fashion designer, who is your fashion icons?
CW:Fashion icons? Hm. Well I derive inspiration from a lot of different designers/brands including: Betsey Johnson, Tokidoki, Tripp NYC, and Gwen Stefani.
KM:What is your favorite video game? And what is your favorite console?
CW:Favorite video game of all time? That’s a hard one. I have no idea. Probably Ocarina of Time. My all time favorite console would have to be the gamecube. :D I have a lot of fond memories with my ‘cube and a ton of games for it. Of this gen though, I’m a Playstation 3 fangirl for sure.
KM:If you could be any video game character who would you be?
CW:Myself! Or maybe Rikku from FFX because she’s totally cute :3
KM:Do you have any advice for people who are beginners in the etsy business?
CW:Just go for it. That’s what I did. You just have to put your stuff out there for people to see. Take good pictures, have good descriptions, promote yourself through a blog or facebook or whatever and just be out there.
KM:If you could be any super heroine who would you be?
CW:Probably an X-Men. That’s probably my favorite super hero franchise. I always tend to gravitate towards Storm because of her skin tone, and white hair is just sexy :p
KM:What was your first D.I.Y. project?
CW:Oh god. I think it was a pair of leg warmers? Oh no. No it was something awful. I decided to make this super ugly apron out of vinyl and plaid, because that’s the fabric I had lying around. It was horrible.
KM:What was your first video game?
CW:Sonic the Hedgehog on my brother’s Sega Genesis :p
KM:Do you have any sewing tips for beginners?
CW:Read a lot! Look up tutorials if you’re confused, and don’t be afraid of the machine.
KM:Any thing you would like to close with??
CW:With ambition and drive you can accomplish anything. I’m striving for the sky, and we’ll see where I go. :)
DISCLAIMER:. Also, I’m gonna throw out a disclaimer and tell you I am really freaking exhausted, so if something’s answered weird, that’s why n______n

As Promised. 1.6.11
and I hope you guys have fun with it. Makeup is supposed to make you more confident, your supposed to have fun, it isn’t supposed to be like homework. All the sound is removed from this one. I think my videos mesh better now, because not only can I make them faster, but because of how horrible my sound is on my camera, it makes it easier for viewers to understand what the heck I’m saying. Which is always good. Alright, I’m out of here, see you on Friday, for Fashion FridayX2 and next week will start normal activities.

I AM not a fan of PETER PAN COLLARS. 1.22.11
This fashion thing, is the whole reason why I haven’t narrowed the point of my blog before, it gets boring after a while. Plus, Tumblr has just turned into a huge popularity contest and I think that I’ve joined and been caught up in the hype. I log on every day, to read comments and to look over what Im supposed to be doing, but there’s nothing ever there. I want this to be an interractive blog. People are commenting like every minute on my new little project. That’s what I wanted my fashion blog to be like, but it just does not seem to be working. You know what I mean? I haven’t updated in ages, you guys probably thought I was dead and or just didn’t care.
I mean being real with myself, I don’t really have anything to offer. There isn’t anything particularly special about me. I mean, I’m not plus size, I’m not super skinny, I’m right in the middle, its not difficult for me to find clothing to wear, except or like bottoms. Which my mother and I can make. I’m not the best seamstress, and all the tutorials, I’ve uploaded you can basically find anywhere else, or dig out of your common sense box.
I can be honest. I’m no where near a makeup guru. So I’m not really helping anyone, so what am I supposed to do? I mean I’m eating up bandwith by having so many blogs open at one time anyway. I’m not super funny or quirky, I’m not amazing, and I’m not really one of a kind. I mean I’m sure if you looked hard enough you could find someone that looks like me, or talks like me, or even owns their own little business/blog/website/youtube/etsy, like I do, so I mean what makes me unique enough to have 13 people keep me around?
I really don’t know.
P.S. I’m sick and cold, because the furnace went out in my house. So dad went and bought an exorbitant amount of space heaters, but I guess the wiring in the house is wierd or can’t take the ampage or whatever, because everyonce in a while, like a few sexonds ago, the electricity will go out. So I’ve had to be dealing with that. Then when the electricity comes back on, the heaters start with cold air and then they start to warm up, So I’m not really getting any better.
In actual fashion news, I have discovered two really good plus size fashion blogs, for girls who do fall in that range and are having trouble finding cute things to wear. http://cupcakesclothes.blogspot.com/ Is written by Georgina, Who I find just to be gorgeous, she’s quirky and funny and her blog is a delightful read.
http://buttonsbowsandbrogues.blogspot.com/ Is written by Stephanie, whose African-American, so she’s catering to two bases. I loved some of her outfits on there, and I think you guys will too, but please work on helping me convince her that it is NOT cool to wear fur. Thanks.
So Please, Go Visit! Show these ladies some love!
P.S.2 I am not a fan of Peter Pan Collars, and these ladies seem to be, so have fun!
Lace kisses from Rouge lips,
Kousagi
